山道に 巨木被いて 旅人の 休らう影に 吹く風涼し
Grand tree’s shade and wind blow off travelers’ heat.
樹齢1000年、高20ｍ、周9.1ｍ 長崎県小長井町オガタマというのはモクレン科の植物だそうで、ここにあるのは日本一の大きさを誇っています。有明海に面した小高い岡の上にあると聞いたのですが標識がほとんどなく ずいぶん道に迷ってしまった。ミカン山の農道で地元のおばあさんに聞いてやっと巡り合えました。それは道を被うように土手に生えており巨幹が今にも倒れそうな感じで路面を横切っていました。むし暑い日でしたが、この木の下では涼しい風が通っており、なんとも言えない心地よさでスケッチすることができました。
"Konagai OgataManoki" 1000 years old, 20m high, 9.1m in Konagai Town, Nagasaki Prefecture. Ogatama is a magnoliaceous Family, and Ogatama in there is the largest in Japan. I heard that it was on a small hill facing the Ariake Sea, but there were almost no signs and I was lost a lot. At last I met a local ask grandmother on a farm road on Mountain orange. She led me to the hill. Ogatama grows too big from embankment. It covers road surface. Although it was muggy then, wind is blowing under the tree. It instanced my uncomfortable minds and enabled me to sketch the tree.
